On June 25, 2011, the World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization – UNESCO declared the Coffee Cultural Landscape as a World Heritage Site.
The territory recognized by UNESCO includes 47 municipalities of the Departments of Quindio, Caldas, Risaralda and Valle del Cauca. This geographical area is located in the branches (central and western) of the Andes Mountains.
In the UNESCO declaration, the economic, natural and cultural elements that reflect the tenacity and work of several generations of coffee growers in the Colombian coffee zone were taken into account.
After the Declaration of the Coffee Cultural Landscape, there has been a tourist boom of the 3 departments of the Coffee Zone, especially in Quindio, home of the main tourist attractions of the coffee zone.
